Unexpected side effects of girly hand-me-down pants, coupled with your child having a cold: at a quick glance on a wiggling baby, a little round plastic rhinestone looks a lot like a glistening drop has just fallen from their nose.

I wish my pants had rhinestones on them.

Sparklepants!

The practical part of me says, "huh, rhinestones on pants? that sounds uncomfortable, if you lean on the rhinestone part." And the "wait, aren't small items bad for babies?" part says, "huh, I hope that glue or thread is *really* strong, otherwise that's bad design for baby pants."

Baby clothing design can be a bit odd - the newborn clothes never had buttons, and then buttons became common, often conveniently located on the shoulders for easy access, right around when she started to really be able to put everything in her mouth and chew on her clothes - but in this case, the rhinestone things are *really* small, like water-droplet sized, which is actually somewhat safer than things in the pea-to-grape, dime-to-checker sort of range.

And I don't think they're any more uncomfortable than buttons or zippers on the ankles of jeans, which you must have been wearing more or less when I was ::grin::.

This could be a strange variation on the 'girl who cried flowers' folktale - The Girl Who Dripped Rhinestones.
