Fic research I am too lazy to do: I don't really know stuff about modern pop music pop culture. What sorts of awards and recognitions are out there, and how do they stack up against each other? I've heard of the Grammies, so that must be pretty near the top... I guess there's also... VMAs? What sorts of, um, Billboard or other sales records might be significant? Like, equivalent to NYT Bestsellers kinds of things...

I'm looking for a handful of things, rankable by degree of prestige. Thanks so much if anyone sees fit to throw out some ideas.

Obviously the Grammys are most important. I would say that anyone who is anyone in the music industry goes to and cares about the VMAs, even though they started as a joke (and they're very informal -- sort of an anti-award show).

There are the Billboard Music Awards, which I believe is based entirely on billboard standings/sales, and is less important.

Somewhere in there are the AMAs (American Music Awards). I have heard them downplayed quite a bit, though.

There are probably bunches of other things. I don't *think* the Golden Globes do music, but they do everything else in the entertainment industry, so who knows.
