So most excellent. "Papa Was a Rodeo" and "With Whom to Dance" and everything on i is terrific. Okay, some of it more and less so. But some of it very so.

"Infinitely Late At Night": "Stephin's funniest song!" "(Also his saddest!)"

And "Yeah! Oh Yeah!" staged with Stephin offstage and leaning on at the yeahs...

(But why "The One You Really Love"? Not to end on a sour note (the end was in fact "All My Little Words" which was excellent.) But why?)

Hey, if you're up, want to call me and tell me all about it?

Ah, but "As You Turn To Go"... Although (because?) it was a low-key set, I loved it. People usually agree that there is filler on Magnetic Fields albums, although in my humble experience, nobody ever agrees on which song is filler and which is world-class. So basically they can play whatever they like.

I'm still ecstatic. Good night!

Hmm. I was unaware of any debate about which category Punk Rock Love fits into.

I've liked "With Whom to Dance" for a while, thanks to carpenter I think, and I just heard "Papa Was a Rodeo" on Friday for the first time and liked that quite a bit too, also a couple others from 69 Love Songs. But I'm still waffling about what album if any to get. What should I do? I suppose what I should do is get one of the many Fields fans I know to send me a sampler disk that would give me an impression of what various albums are like, but I think I keep expecting that sooner or later the iTunes Music Store is going to put them all up and make things easy for me. (They have _i_ but not the others.) ...Though actually, I'm not sure 30-second clips are sufficient to give an impression of a Fields song. Waffle waffle.

Okay, I lied about not replying to any old lj comments, because I totally should have replied to this months ago. I think you should get Get Lost. There are good songs on all the albums, but Get Lost has imo a) the highest concentration of good songs b) fewer duds c) some of the very best. Tracks 2/3/4 is maybe the most concentrated favorite music I own, if that makes any sense. ::grin:: I also (ahem) may be putting together a best-track-from-each-album sampler as part of a mix for somebody who is hopefully not reading this ::grin::, so I could try to remember to send you a copy, but, of course, the best song from each album is not going to be especially representative ::grin::.

Okay, here's a question. I read the Globe review today, of the concert we went to.

And apparently, during "Papa Was a Rodeo," a DISCO BALL came down from the ceiling. Do you remember this? I would think someone would have *mentioned* it if any of us had noticed a frickin' DISCO BALL.

Okay, I lied about not replying to any old lj comments. I'm sorry, but there was totally a disco ball. And it was cool. (I meant to answer this at the time... you may now suspect me of misremembering, but, well, me and the discoball will know the truth ::grin::)

See, now I'm totally disappointed that you didn't say, at the time of the disco ball, something like "look! there's a disco ball!" Because then I would have seen it too. Oh, well.
