I'm curious whether anyone has an informed opinion - or heck, just an opinion - on the edible lifetimes of:
a jar of salsa
half an avocado (in plastic bag)
half a can of tiny shrimp (in plastic bag)
a jar of pickles
a bottle of V8
an older bottle of V8

Certain items are definitely headed for disposal, such as the egg. Ahem. Let us never mention that again.

In other news, I'm still alive, although struggling with a lot of stress over my return to school.

It depends how hot it is. Hot salsa is pretty hard to grow mold on. Mold likes a somewhat less acidic environment. Like mild salsa.

half an avocado (in plastic bag)

Two hours? Seriously. You can't save avacado unless it's factory vacuum sealed.

half a can of tiny shrimp (in plastic bag)

Crustaceans don't have a noticeable shelf life either. And they're notorious for making you sick when you eat them too late. Toss.

a jar of pickles

Six billion years. It's the brine.

a bottle of V8

Opened or unopened? Unopened V8 is probably fine. It won't taste its freshest if it's been more than a couple of months, but it won't have grown anything either.

The V8, alas, did turn out to have something growing in it. But you were totally right about the avocado, alas.
