Strange Adventures

Strange Adventures. I surprised myself by finding this more interesting than I thought I was going to! Which, okay, was a pretty low bar, but hey. Still, at the end, the story is more or less "dude gets tortured and cuts a deal when he can't face more torture", which isn't that interesting. And Alanna deciding that Mr. Terrific should get half custody of the kid who a few pages earlier she was like "I would bend the universe to find you"... did someone at DC decide this character needed a little blonde sidekick for some future arc? The whole end didn't land for me at all.
Two more things. We never got the DC cameo I most would have liked to see - I feel like Wonder Woman and her Lasso of Truth would have been very relevant to the question of "what is the truth of Adam Strange" (although I have no idea whether she even has the Lasso in current DC continuity), and also I think of Diana as the big-name Justice Leaguer with the most experience in war/warfare/war crimes, as opposed to Batman who (loosely speaking) fights criminals, or Superman who (again, loosely) fights disasters and monsters. (Which all also might not be true in current DC, I just do not know.) And it could have been really interesting to see her talk to Alanna, princess to princess, about why Alanna has shaped so much of her life around Strange.
Also I translated the translatable Pykkt in chapter 6, and was amused by the Pykkt who says "aw beans" when he gets shot. (Most of the Pykkt is gibberish, but when Alanna tries to parlay with them, there's a panel where we get "You might have surrendered and lived as slaves. But you have chosen conflict. As such the only limitation set upon of this warfare is how quickly you will die." I didn't make my own key, I found one on the internet, based on when Mr. Terrific is trying to get the Pykkt files. here. Always fun to do a little decoding.) Batman's somewhat mangled grasp of Pykkt later on was also cute.
Anyways, now I get to rank graphics!
The nominees:
DIE, vol. 4: Bleed
Far Sector
Lore Olympus
Monstress, vol. 6: The Vow
Once & Future, vol. 3: The Parliament of Magpies
Strange Adventures
And my ordering:
Far Sector
Monstress, vol. 6: The Vow
...
First two were easy. I feel pretty meh about the other four. Sort of tempted to break out the ol' No Award, which I mostly only deploy when I'm pissed off about something even being nominated. I don't know, I suppose I am in fact kind of pissed off that we can't manage to nominate something more interesting. But, ugh, I suppose they have to be ranked in any case, so let's say:
Lore Olympus
DIE
Strange Adventures
Once & Future
