Wolfwalkers!

psocopteraThere was a free one-day streaming of Wolfwalkers, so I got to see it without having to deal with Apple TV! I have been excited about this since, like, 2018, and it was really good. Gorgeous animation - really neat visualization of different environments, with the town full of backgrounds that looked like woodcuts, the woods in a much more organic and sometimes watercolor-y style, playing around with perspective, stylized character designs that reminded me of 60s-70s animation... so satisfying. (Apparently Studio Ghibli is doing 3D CG now, and it looks awful, or at least it did in the trailer I saw, and I am sad... I'm glad there's still somebody out there doing art animation.) Also, hey, I had been annoyed that Song of the Sea did the "dads are enormous but moms are skinny" character design thing (complained about here), so, bravo to Wolfwalkers for giving the mom character bulk and big-space-occupying presence (some of which is hair, but some of which is a fat body design) even if we don't get to see her do very much.
