Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos, Lucy Knisley. I remembered liking Relish, although I can't find my post about it (I wish search wasn't a paid feature, sigh), and when I spotted this at the library I thought it was the 2019 graphic novel about pregnancy on my to-read list, of which I dimly recalled there was one. It wasn't; that was Waves, which I think is... really different. But I'm a big sucker for birth stories (and Knisley's was certainly terrifying - I could see this book being really triggering for anyone who had a traumatic birth, so, uh, heads up if that's you). And even though I was already familiar with most of the information about miscarriage and weird pregnancy symptoms, and some of the stuff about historic medical treatment, there were some new-to-me facts (in 1591, Eufame Maclayne was burned at the stake in Scotland for chewing a painkilling herb during labor! damn!). Anyways, I'm sure I would have been super into this during my peak obsessive-reading-about-pregnancy years. Kind of like the comics version of all those infertility blogs I used to read.
