the Heyer the fewer
Jun. 26th, 2019 09:23 pmThe Convenient Marriage, Georgette Heyer. I wasn't into this one - the initial premise appealed to me, but then I was turned off by the heroine's gambling and extravagance, thought the hero was kind of a dick, and as far as I could tell the point of the whole thing was to set up an extended farce at the end to demonstrate how dumb everyone but the hero was. I do think it's interesting what kind of variety there is between Heyer's books - they feel much more variable to me so far than books from a contemporary romance author. I guess writing before genre standardization has its perks.
