A Snicker of Magic
Dec. 14th, 2018 10:01 amA Snicker of Magic, Natalie Lloyd. Sweet and sentimental middle-grade about family curses and making friends and the magic of small towns. Reminded me a little bit of Holes except Holes is much sharper and tighter and funnier, or possibly The Westing Game except with magical realism and treacle. But the idea of the big quirky cast and their interconnected backstories and the moments of catharsis between people who needed them, I guess? I'm not necessarily anti-treacle and I did enjoy it but go in prepared for some chicken soup in your kidlit soul.
