two times Okorafor
Mar. 12th, 2018 09:13 pmBinti: Home. I had forgotten, or maybe didn't know, this ended with a cliffhanger. Well, now *you* know. Library queue for the last one should only be a few months? [ETA: Library queue was... like an hour? I was 15th and I somehow got it tonight?? I don't know what just happened there but it was *magical*.] What Okorafor is doing here is *so interesting* but I feel like I have to see where it goes before really reaching conclusions. But something like "all of history is repeated hybridization"?? This is a 2017 novella and I do recommend it but I don't think I'm going to displace something from my nominations for it (but I definitely had to think about it).
Chicken in the Kitchen. Gorgeously-illustrated picture book about a girl, a wood spirit, and a masquerade spirit (and a mess in the kitchen). I picked this one out at the library but it seems to have captured Q's imagination - it is next to me on the couch right now because he wanted to read it to me again. What's really interesting to me is how much this sounds like Okorafor and is about the kinds of things she writes about despite being such a different format.
