Mar. 31st, 2003 07:59 pmAm at library, and just came across on "trashy Star Trek paperbacks" shelf:
1) tSTp entitled "Vulcan's Heart" in which Spock apparently marries Saavik
2) a tSTp duology entitled "Dark Passions" set in the mirror universe in which Annika Hansen, aka Seven of Nine, apparently seduces Kira
Main-character marriage? Lesbian liasons? Is the Trek book franchise actually trying to compete with fanfic??

Y'see, the Trek books have always been considered outside of canon. They're essentially carefully vetted and sanctioned (and, mercifully, proofread) fanfic. And I imagine the sales have been dropping like a stone since the fandom figured out that product of equal quality (on average) is available for free from the ficcers.
S'my theory, anyway.
