X-Men Apocalypse
Jun. 12th, 2016 09:34 pmBehind cut for spoilers. So I had somehow stayed completely unspoiled for this movie - never saw trailers, never read much about it - so I had no idea which part of Erik-canon it was going to include, so, *god*, imagine the wave of dread that swept over me when he gets home and we see the wife and kid. I did some preemptive crying and then by the actual scene I was crying so hard that I basically didn't actually *see* it, which has kind of worked out well for me because I'm not stuck with an image, go brain for protecting myself I guess? Other than that I really enjoyed the theater, to make a Lincoln joke, but, I mean, no, seriously, I compartmentalize pretty well, there was a fun superhero movie in this movie other than that aspect. Always fun to see the top-level mutants busting out the big powers, some great character beats, how much did I love that the big climactic resolution was an insecure teenage girl embracing and unleashing the power inside of her, that was just glorious. Quicksilver continues to be an utter delight and they even un-fucked-up the Moira/memories thing! I'm not entirely sure I would have chosen to go if I knew about the child death but in fact I'm glad I did even given that.
