Okay, this is the hardest category for me for figuring out eligibility (that I actually vote in, at least), but I *think* all of O Human Star Volume 1, Strong Female Protagonist Book One, and Nimona count as 2014 publications. (If Nimona doesn't make the ballot, I think we can nominate it again in 2016 in its paper manifestation.)

I have a month: should I try to see what of Captain Marvel or Ms. Marvel I can get from the library? I feel like some random stuff has made the ballot in this category in the past so I would enjoy having five things to nominate. Please, suggest things!

My absolute favorite comic of 2014 was Loki: Agent of Asgard vol. 1: Trust Me by Al Ewing, which is clever and funny and emotionally involving.

Avengers Assemble: The Forgeries of Jealousy by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Warren Ellis has great writing but disappointing art. I still recommend it highly, though.

I didn't expect to like Red Sonja vol. 1: Queen of Plagues by Gail Simone as much as I did; even discounting the chainmail bikini, sword and sorcery isn't typically one of my favorite subgenres. Simone's story is good enough to transcend its genre for me, though, and the art is just lovely.

Lazarus vol. 2: Lift by Greg Rucka is another example of a comic that's not my usual subgenre--a brutal dystopia, this time--but when the story's this good... You'll need to read the first volume for this one to make any sense.

Ms. Marvel vol. 1: No Normal is indeed very nice. A little too heavyhanded for me to love it, but I did enjoy it a lot. (I suspect that the second volume will be even better.)

Thanks again for the recs; didn't end up getting my hands on Loki Agent of Asgard in time to nominate it, but am still looking forward to reading it. Am adding Ms. Marvel to my nominations, I see what you mean about heavy-handed but I can deal with that in a comic book and it was charming. I have a big soft spot for teen supers.
