Well, holy shit. When the Hydra logo came up instead of the SHIELD logo at the end I *gasped*. Just about cried at Fitz crying, too.

But OH MAN, WARD. Somehow over time I've gone from total disinterest, after watching the pilot, to him being the main viewpoint character in my AoS fic. (I mean, here's what I said in my review of the pilot:

Instead it seems likely to have the same problem Dollhouse had, of spending waaaay too much time on the dude in the Paul Ballard role (aka "the completely uninteresting white male main character", here a black ops specialist who only wants to work aloooooone).

In retrospect, the Dollhouse comparison is VERY INTERESTING, wouldn't you say.)

Because I am self-centered like that, am totally now re-reading my own fic trying to decide whether I'm totally Jossed or whether things can still be shoehorned into the post-ep17 world and which/how many of my many WIPs I want to keep working on if they're now definitely canon-divergence AUs. Which. Um. If anyone is reading this, and watching the show, and has read my fic, and likes talking about fanfic, and was willing to listen to me babble about characterization and stuff, I know that's a lot of ifs, but I am kind of at the point where it would be really nice to have a fandom buddy because DANG. (I am really not used to writing in a "live" fandom...)

Anyways. Back to actual episode thoughts. I think I'm going to revive my Lost tradition of listing major unanswered questions to which I would like to know the answers:

- the whole business with the eyeball bombs seems like a *really elaborate* recruitment system if you've also got like hundreds or thousands of willing Hydra recruits. I mean, what was so special about Akela Amador (other than her being MADE OF AWESOME obviously, but besides that) that they had to go to elaborate lengths to get her in particular to do those jobs for them?

- were the equations and whatnot on the walls in the Heavily Guarded Room in the eyeball-bomb episode somehow related to the Zola algorithm, or were they something else entirely?

- we very specifically did *not* hear Ward say "heil Hydra", he just gives lots of meaningful nods and dark looks. That's got to be a deliberate choice, but what does it meeeean.

I am watching shield, reading your lj, reading your fic, and totally willing to listen to your thoughts on it, but feel like I might be pretty useless in helping you figure things out. That said, I volunteer as fandom buddy!

My thoughts on your questions...

-Sure Hydra had all sorts of willing agents, but they wanted to keep them undercover within Shield until the master plan happens, so the whole eyeball thing is so they can keep themselves hidden, still get the jobs done, and keep the good guys chasing something else.

-good question, I hope they address that.

-I am guessing Ward is/was Hydra, but is conflicted and not really into it anymore after having worked with Coulson et al (or possibly somewhat coerced into it by Garrett long ago?) , so he will eventually turn on Hydra at an opportune moment/come to the good guys with important Hydra info/etc.

After seeing Cap2, I was guessing that one of our core crew would turn out to be Hydra, and Ward was my call on that (partially from process of elimination, because it just couldn't be Coulson, I had assumed May was calling Fury when we first saw her make the secure call so didn't think it was her, it seems if it was Skye then Hydra would have gotten her into Shield ages ago, and I think I might have cried if it was Fitz and/or Simmons). In the episode a few things of what supported it for me was 1. Ward being surprised when Coulson says May is the sleeper agent, because since I was guessing that Ward was Hydra, Hydra members presumably know who Hydra is and isn't (but on the other hand if Ward wasn't Hydra then he would have been surprised that May was Hydra), and 2. Ward asking Skye out for drinks (misdirection! Skye - don't think about who is Hydra, think about sexy times with Ward), and 3. Skye kissing Ward (yup, confirmation he is Hydra, makes the twist that he is even more painful to the characters).

I really want to re-watch several of the episodes but especially the last two.
And I will re-read your Fic too :)
