Yuletide 2013 recs part one
Dec. 26th, 2013 12:22 amI didn't participate this year myself, which is a little sad, but was the right decision from a time and stress perspective.
I'm going to try something different this year with recs, and instead of going through fandoms alphabetically, I'm going to group things by source category and see how that works. So, webcomics.
There was one Nimona story which was fluffy and cute.
Two Gunnerkrigg Court stories. One about the previous generation, about which I am hopeless at remembering who is who, so it didn't really work for me, except a bit about Jones, which was interesting. perchance to stay. The other is about Coyote and another trickster and is short and very clever. Trickster Tales.
One Girl Genius story, an Agatha/Gil/Tarvek threesome. The actual sex scene didn't wow me, but the lead-up was pretty great. The Newlyweds' Delight, Mark II.
One Oglaf story, Snow Queen/Greir, yay! Short, funny, excellent Greir. Winter is Coming.
One Hark! A Vagrant story, An Analysis of the Implicit Rules of Expletive Infixation (Or, Where the Fuck do You Put the Fucking Fuck?), long (for Yuletide) and funny.
One Dumbing of Age story, about Joyce and Dina and a Secret Santa, kind of missing an ending. I like the premise though and wish we got to see what Dina got Sal.
There were four xkcd stories, all for 1190 (Time), of which I liked There Must Be Other Rivers a lot, and The Linguist and the Traveler a lot as well (neat POV in that one). The third one is actually cartoons rather than a text story and kind of weird (the voice felt like a story told by a kid, maybe, or maybe by someone who only knows rather limited English) but with one really nifty bit, and the fourth one is long, like 10K words long. Linked here, not finished reading yet, but I want to post this before Q's nightly wake-up. It's interesting so far. (ETA: I like it. I ended up skimming a bit, but there's some really nice description, and v. satisfying plot.)
People (Josh) who want to know whether there were stories from any webcomic fandoms not listed here are welcome to ask. (No QC, no SP, no Narbonic or Skin Horse, what else would you want to know about.)
