two graphic novels
Nov. 19th, 2013 08:41 pmDrama, by Raina Telgemeier, is not a work of memoir (unlike her previous book Smile) but draws on her middle-school drama club experience to tell a sweet and satisfying middle-school drama club story. I like her expressive faces and pacing.
Relish: My Life in the Kitchen by Lucy Knisley, is a work of memoir with recipes. I wasn't all that fascinated by her life, and none of the recipes made me say boy I want to try this, but I enjoyed it a lot as a work of comics, like, how she tries to convey food in pictures, how she tries to make her recipes easy to follow and also visually interesting (and also visually interesting in different ways).
