Q made it to the end of gym class this week, which is the distribution of stickers. "We have truck stickers and princess stickers," the teacher announced, and I braced myself for each kid to be handed the normative sticker, but, no, she went around the room, offered each kid their choice of sticker, and gave them all a big smile and words of approval no matter what they chose.

I thanked her for it, after class; I feel like I spend enough time ranting about this sort of thing that it's a good idea to celebrate the times when someone gets it right.

It used to annoy me when I worked at Wendy's and a parent would ask for "a girl toy" or "a boy toy". Somehow succeeding in not rolling my eyes, I used to say politely, "I'm sorry, our toys are not gender specific. All of our toys are for everyone."

Good on this teacher for giving all of those children a choice.

awwww. (so which did Q choose?)

The PRINCESS! PINK! GENDER IS IMPORTANT! thing has hit hard here, and we try to correct whenever Sheena's all "You can't go to the ball because you're wearing pants," or what have you.
