San Diego day one

Vacation with kids is, in many ways, just wrangling your kids in a less convenient location. On the one hand, I got to take a nap today (which I mostly don't at home)! On the other hand, despite my parents hard work putting away breakables, this is still an environment with many opportunities for trouble, so whoever is on Q duty has to follow about a foot behind him at all times, which gets exhausting, when it's my turn.

yeah, "vacation" is a misnomer under such circumstances. I know a couple people down here who have opted for Disney cruises, which sounds like an expensively horrible idea to me, but it comes with entertainment for the kids, at least.

When we were in Florida my grandmother kept getting cranky over Janet pulling the plastic photo frames off the low tables, and I kept saying, "Anything you don't want her to try and grab, we have to put up." (I had already moved all the glassware and ceramics.) And then there was the matter of the white chairs.
