more airships
Jan. 27th, 2013 09:40 pmSkybreaker by Kenneth Oppel, sequel to Airborn. I think I actually liked it better than the first one, the setting in this one is excellent and there are a couple of particularly good moments. Still don't care much about the shipping. Did find myself asking whether Westerfeld had read these before writing his series, given the gold bar hijinks, and Nadira reminding me a bit of Lilit - but in fact, the correct answer is "I don't care"; I am entirely in favor of people reading things and being inspired and stealing things and putting their own twists on them. Leviathan remains brilliantly original and almost unbelievably full of my favorite things; if the Oppel books helped even a tiny bit with that, then yay.
ETA: Never mentioned that the last Raksura book, The Siren Depths, was awesome. Oh, Moon. And not entirely unrelated to airships!
