How To Train Your Dragon is made of rainbows. I guess that is useless as a review but, seriously, I didn't know much about it going into it, and it turned out to be full of things I love, and I recommend it highly.

Also last night I dreamed that they had made a Vorkosigan movie and I was watching it with [livejournal.com profile] kelilah and it was a big secret who was going to be playing Miles and it turned out to be Robert Downey Jr. Which... is actually pretty good casting, for something I came up with in my sleep; we know from Holmes and Tony Stark that he can play manic-genius. Of course he's much too old unless it was a Cryoburn movie. (It wasn't recognizably any of the books at all, in my dream; there was a murder mystery, but it was rather muddled, and kept switching between being a movie I was watching, a movie being filmed in which I was an actor, a sort of playable video game or possibly a LARP, and actually being happening. Level-of-reality confusion is a common feature of my more interesting dreams. Right before I woke up we got a look at who was playing Ekaterin and thought she wasn't the right type at all.) I don't actually know young actors well enough to know who I would want to cast in a Vorkosigan movie - I think ideally I'd want an actor with a visible disability, like reduced stature or facial differences or something. I mean, I'm sure they wouldn't have exactly Miles' disabilities and they'd still need special effects or prosthetic costuming or whatever, but it just seems like a role that should go to a disabled actor if possible. (Huh, and now I'm curious about whether Richard the Third has ever been played in a major production by a visibly disabled actor...)

Yes! to the How to Train Your Dragon reaction!

Also, if you didn't watch them already, the special features are almost as good as the movie. There are lots of adorable animation geeks going "We got to make *so many different kinds of fire*!"

We had recorded it from the teevee (one of those movie channel free weekend promotions) so no special features, alas. But yeah, boy, I guess they got to make a lot of kinds of fire!

Well, I'm glad you were watching the movie with me. :^) When I think of Miles's appearance, the main thing is the head being slightly too large for his body, kind of like he had the head his genes had dictated, the head of a 6-foot-whatever guy, and then the rest of his body only made him--what, a few inches shy of 5 feet? Peter Dinklage is perhaps a bit too handsome and is already 43, but is 4'5" and has proportions that seem reasonably similar to Miles.

Heh, I mention Peter Dinklage in my half-finished followup post. My problem there is that he looks way too sturdy to be fragile...
