Diary of a Move
Jul. 12th, 2003 07:51 pmRoom swap accomplished, 96 +/- 5 loads.
Sliding tile puzzle time: housemate emptied room into living room & kitchen, I moved my stuff in, housemate is just finishing moving his stuff into my vacated former room. All has gone quite efficiently.
Was interesting- first two loads were the Big Things, mattress and dresser, that I needed the housemate's help with. At twenty trips, all major furniture in place and room taking shape. Fifty, and what was left was all my crap - loose stuff and shoe boxes of stuff from the top of my dresser and stacks of papers and, just, like, room detritus. Maybe eighty and things were looking bare, just these odds and ends of mixed little stuff left.
Number of injuries: 2, minor, ripped cuticle and scratches on thighs (what I get for wearing short-short cutoffs, I suppose).
Number of times vacuum unclogged: 2, once just by emptying the bag and once a major operation involving poking around in the hose with the twist-stick from the housemate's venetian blinds. Do not vacuum up those square plastic things that close bread bags, that's what I've learned.
Drugs taken: Claritin, 1, right away in the morning, smartest thing I did because my god, the dust; extra-strength tylenol for headache, 2.
Thing I was most pleased to find: my postcard of Lunch Break.
Thing I was most disappointed not to find: my grepping stereo remote!
Thing I took out of room that I had not put in: I pried a small Rainbow Brite stuffed toy from behind the radiator, one of those little fuzzy color guys.
Room is still quite disorderly; am condensing into much smaller space necessitating new as-yet-unrealized heights of organization. However, have attained reasonable set up of desk and dresser to not block windows *too* much, and big bed turns out to fit perfectly in alloted corner. Not much floor space left, but is quite manageable.
And have *moved*! Go me!
