not about Lost
Apr. 21st, 2010 10:06 pmI win: today I had Junie in the carrier while doing some laundry, and she was cranky about it and making a really grating cranky noise, and instead of futilely telling her to stop it I told her "I don't like that noise, let's think of some other noises you could make, what does the sheep say?". And even once we were through the list she sort-of knows and into the ones she totally doesn't yet, she stayed cheerful through getting the laundry in. So I do have the occasional good parenting moment to balance out the impatient ones.
We both win: in the bath I was pouring from a cup for her, and she got very interested in it and tried to grab the stream of water and passed her hand back and forth through it and was just so intent and curious and sometimes it's just overwhelming how awesome that kid is.
Nobody wins: she bit me twice today and it would have been more if I hadn't gotten better about catching her in the approach. Made me twitchy and reluctant to be in touching range. WTF, kid, we haven't had biting in weeks, maybe months, what made you decide today that my kneecap was asking to be chomped? (And later my arm?) Probably teething, in fact, but ugh I do not like being bitten. I'm not sure whether an explicit suggestion like "if you need to bite, bite the biting squid" would help, or if she's too young, or if it'll just remind her of biting. Stoopid molars, hurry up and stop bugging my kid.
