Was hoping to go see Fantastic Mr. Fox at the Monday Mom Matinee, but Juniper conked out on my lap right when I would have started getting us ready to go, and I felt that her need for sleep trumped my desire for entertainment.

There's this parenting theory called "attachment parenting", but I think I often do well trying to practice a sort of "no-attachment parenting", like in a vaguely Buddhist sense - suffering arises from clinging and craving, peace is found in acceptance... I'm sorry to all the Buddhists for my appalling misappropriation of your tradition there. I should just say that I'm often happiest with my kid when I can let go of any plans and just follow her cues in the moment.

I think it's an excellent philosophy. But then I'm a fan of western pop Buddhism, so I'm guilty of participating in the (mis?)-appropriation.
