In "comics you should be reading" news, Digger has come out from behind the paywall. Start from the beginning, this is not one to try to jump in on.

I was surprised by how few people had heard of Gunnerkrigg Court as opposed to Girl Genius, Order of the Stick, or the Narbonic reruns, the rest of my "top five comics on the net" list. Thinking about it more it is not actually surprising - Foglio was already well-known in print comics, OotS seems pretty highly web-contagious. Well, have a link!

Gunnerkrigg is amazing. For many chapters I kept wondering "but where is this going... so many plot threads...", but eventually I realized "you know, it doesn't matter where this is going, because getting there is so tremendously fun".

Considering how much I like the last three, you've undoubtedly given me two new obsessions in one post. Um, go you?

Cursory Check Man sez, nice clean appealing art on both Digger and Gunnerkrigg!

I just tried reading Digger, and bonked to a stop kinda quickly, despite enjoying it. Am I missing something obvious, or is there really no "next comic" button anywhere?

Aha — this is apparently a known problem. Hope they fix it....

I've been wanting to read Digger for *years*. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Wow. Reading the first couple of issues, Gunnerkrigg looks pretty addictive--I don't know whether to be happy or sad :-}. Nonetheless, at work, so time for self-control.

We have two other faves in our house: Questionable Content (comedy drama about an suburban bunch of indie-music fans and friends) and Girls with Slingshots (queer-friendly Friends on a bender). Both places in slightly alternate universes, but definitely not fantasy-based.

I tried to pick up Digger from the beginning and it didn't grab me. I will try again.

My first impression of Gunnerkrigg: "Girl Genius", if Phil Foglio was mysteriously replaced with Edward Gorey. That's a very primising first impression...

Now caught up on both Gunnerkrigg and Digger... wow.
