today dawns the day of employment
Apr. 4th, 2005 06:18 pmSo my first day at, let's call it Syngnath, went well! I think it likely I will be having a torrid office romance with the automatic cell counter. So brilliantly non-labor-requiring! Also I read some papers and have refined my list of things I need to brush up on, which excitingly now includes the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, which iIrc one of my Swat profs once called the most important equation in chemistry. I seem to recall that there is a Henderson-Hasselbalch higgledy-piggledy (perhaps written by
eclectic_boy?), going something like
"Higgledy-Piggledy
Henderson-Hasselbalch
Gave to solutions
This modified face:
pH is pKa
minus the log
of the fraction of acid
divided by base."
As I (very dimly) recall we were never quite satisfied with "this modified face"; it strikes me now that "this buffer of grace" makes about as much sense, and puns on "buffer", so, hey!
Anyways, the point of this all is that I am clearly still a huge nerd. This makes me happy. Also their tissue culture protocols don't seem to involve anything too weird so it seems likely I'll be able to start actually getting work done pretty quickly.
