I *worked*!

psocopteraOver eight hours of retail in the Brandeis bookstore; they were hiring temps for rush week. Although I wouldn't object to regular shifts if I can end up with them. I think I might be able to work more or less full time this week, which would be really nice, to actually, you know, earn some money.
And, like, I learned how to use a cash register. It's not hard. Although it's evil when people give you some amount of cash and you ring it in and then they want to give you some other amount of cash to alter the amount of change they get, and the thing is, I handle this situation just fine when I still know what the total was (like when I worked concessions in high school), but with the all-automatic registers once it's rung in all that shows is the amount of change, and I find this much more confusing, and really, how hard is it to decide what amount of cash you want to pay with *before* the person has rung it up? I end up feeling stupid, but it's because the system is very much not designed for that case.
(Surreally, there is a martial arts class of some sort practicing mere feet away, the only open computer cluster being the one in the student center, and they keep counting in, um, Japanese I think, and yelling "hai" and stuff).
