Feb. 5th, 2004 07:35 pmVoted in the Strange Horizons readers poll thingy. Now feel quite convinced of having clean forgot several really good stories in going through giant list and winnowing to five. Ah well.
Other random Strange Horizons comment: there are certain people to whom I have recommended Strange Horizons several times, and every time I do they react as though they've never heard of it before. Whereas it seems like with authors or comics people are more likely to be able to say, "oh yeah, I've had that recommended." Is it just not... sticky? Maybe it's not tied enough to any particular thing, whereas with a specific comic or something you can say things like "yeah, if you like this other thing, you should try that", and then they can remember it by the association.

Date: 2004-02-07 07:00 am (UTC)Interesting re SH not being sticky. Any thoughts as to whether it's SH in particular, or magazines in general, or websites in general, or...? I might guess that the title isn't memorable enough, and/or that people get so many website recommendations they all blur together, and/or that unlike a comic, you have to devote some significant time to reading a magazine before it'll make any sort of impression on you beyond the most immediate look-and-feel kind of thing.... Do you know if any of the people you recommended it to ever actually visited the site? Do you provide a URL/link, or just the name? In an electronic form or spoken aloud, or other context entirely? (No need to answer all of that; I'm just curious.)
I certainly have friends and relatives who say "Yeah, I ought to go take a look at your magazine some day" and never do, but most of them aren't interested in the kinds of things we publish, so in those cases it would be looking at it because of my association with it....
