Mostly to emsariel and wayman, who were curious:

Less than a week later, I have 4 out of 5 requested manga volumes (picked up yesterday) and the fifth came in today. So, very rapid gratification on the manga requesting front. On the other hand, one of the Ranma volumes is hideously mutilated, or rather very cleverly mutilated, in that a number of pages have been sliced out from the spine, so that if you're just flipping through the book appears to be in good condition but if you're actually reading along you notice that hrm, there seems to be a page missing here. Oh, and here. Oh, and.... grrrrr. What kind of asshole rips pages out of library books? If you are so in love with that page, well, it is called a photocopier, dumbass! Are there vengeance demons specializing in abused library materials? There should be. Grr! Anyways, other than that, v. efficient. Of course Ranma and Blade of the Immortal probably not the hot stuff right now... I'm not sure what *is* the hot stuff (wonder if any libraries bought copies of Endless Nights?).

Ah. My surprise earlier came from thinking you were requesting the library order its own copies of these works, which really surprised me (that patrons would have such direct and powerful influence over collection development in an era where libraries don't typically have much in the way of development budgets). But I gather from this that I made the wrong assumption, and you were talking merely about an interlibrary loan sort of thing?
