We went through a whole bunch of miscellaneous bits of hardware - plastic cups of random screws and baggies of leftover Ikea pieces - and ended up keeping almost all of it, but better organized and put away. Sometimes the disadventure is the work you do along the way and not so much the actual volume of stuff removed.

I would love to hear you expound on an organizational theory of random screws and leftover Ikea pieces. Maybe your model will solve my similar problem! Maybe i will hate your model, and what i don't like about it will help me understand how to solve my problem!

Well, haha, by "more organized" I mean "we have stuffed all the little baggies into a tupperware", it probably doesn't count as "organized" except as an improvement on the utter mess it was previously.

ETA We had a big box of all sorts of stuff and in a previous step I had sorted out several other categories into their own shoeboxes like "hooks" and "doorstops and anchor straps" and "nightlights and travel adapters", so now the big box has sub-boxes.
