Into the Riverlands

Into the Riverlands, Nghi Vo, 2022 novella. Same series as When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain and Empress of Salt and Fortune, but I think they could be read in any order, or any of them without the other two at all. This series is so good and I enjoyed this book so much. Spoilers behind the cut. I didn't really think about the title and then the first fight broke out and I was like ohhh riverlands like jianghu, this is a wuxia story. So that was fun, and all the different stories-within-the-story were fun, and the eventual going back to confirm who was who and to try to think about how the stories matched up (or didn't) was fun. I love the conceit of there being these multiple different stories/legends that have diverged over time, and we can't ever see the original events, but we can see pieces of them from different angles. Good stuff.
