2022 Yuletide Dear Author Letter

psocopteraHi! I am so excited to be coming back to Yuletide after sitting it out last year. As always the thing I would like the most is for you my writer to have fun writing - I like little character moments and big zany plot moments and angst and humor and worldbuilding and romance so whatever seems to you like it's going to be interesting to write, I'm going to be there for it.
I don't have any triggers to avoid. There's a couple of story elements I'm often not into and would prefer that you avoid - the giving of lavish or costly gifts as a romantic gesture, stories about pets or pet ownership (with exceptions as noted), and the thing where female characters come down in a dress or otherwise more femmed up/glammed up than usual and their romantic interest is all excited about it. Just not my thing.
Ms. Marvel
Kamala Khan
This show was so fun. I would love to get to spend another thousandish words with Kamala doing basically anything. A fight with some monster-of-the-week? Family dinner? A double date with Nakia and was-that-really-Nakia's-boyfriend? Do Kamala's teachers all know she's Ms. Marvel, and how does that affect how they treat her in the classroom? (Or, better, do some of them know and assume everyone else does too, but in fact some of them don't?) Romance-wise, I thought Bruno and Kamran were in a classic slash setup being chased around the city, and I thought they both had good chemistry with Kamala, so I'm intrigued by the possibility of a Kamala/Bruno/Kamran three-way relationship. (But no Bruno/Kamran that doesn't eventually involve Kamala, please.) I could also be into Kamala/Nakia, or Kamala realizing that her interest in Captain Marvel is in fact A Crush (but no actual sexual/romantic anything happening between them please! Kamala having elaborate daydreams and fantasies, yes, Captain Marvel knowing about them or reciprocating, no.) I feel like the Marvelverse is also a great setting for classic tropes like truth spells or bodyswaps or amnesia. Kamala embiggens and gets stuck like that! Kamala and Kamran's powers get tangled up or stuck together somehow! Kamala goes time-traveling again! So many possible hijinks for these kids.
Scholomance - Naomi Novik

(Giant spoilers here for Golden Enclaves. If you haven't read it yet, any Liu-centric story set during the years in the Scholomance please!)
I was fascinated by Liu figuring out a way that a chorus of casters could cast the golden enclave spell, after all the emphasis on how only El could do it. It's a crucial development in the big plan to save the world, and one of the hardest magical problems anyone has ever solved, and we don't get to see it at all. So that's what I'm most interested in, something about what that's like for Liu. Does she believe she can do it before she does it, that she can solve this problem nobody has been able to solve in thousands of years, or does she surprise herself? Does her experience as a survivor of the start of the mawmouthification process - maybe the only-ever survivor - play into it? How does she feel about that, about how her success relates (or doesn't) to her trauma? Does she get credit for it in the magical community, and how does that change how other people treat her (including family, friends, Yuyan or other romantic interests?) How might her friendship with Aadhya and El have influenced her, or experiences doing group casting before earlier in the series? As an exception to my no-pets preference, feel free to involve the mice in this story.
Alternatively, if this prompt doesn't speak to you, any Liu-centric futurefic after she's been out of the Scholomance for at least a year? What's she doing, *how* is she doing.
What Moves The Dead, T. Kingfisher
I requested Eugenia Potter, but any characters are fine
Maybe this is cheating because the tarn is not a listed character but I would love to see a glimpse of the science-fiction clean-room version where they *are* able to isolate the fungus without destroying it. Eugenia Potter seems like the most likely character to do that work? What kinds of questions does she want to get to ask a sentient fungus, and how might it answer? Is there a path in this AU for Alice that doesn't end in suicide? If you don't want to write an AU, something about Eugenia trying to tell the scientific world about what happened?
