psocopteraI have read roughly the first third of the short stories on the Locus list, which are sorted alphabetically by author's last name. Here are my recs! (Out of maybe two dozen-ish.)
Otto Hahn Speaks to the Dead, Octavia Cade, The Dark. Historical fantasy about the chemist Otto Hahn and his involvement in the development of chemical warfare. Maybe not of general interest unless you share some of my historical interests?
Badass Moms in the Zombie Apocalypse, Rae Carson, Uncanny. A birth story. F/F.
The Translator, at Low Tide, Vajra Chandrasekera, Clarkesworld. I dislike the term "cli-fi" and I resent its utility. Collapselit.
Forgive Me, My Love, For the Ice and the Sea, C.L. Clark, Beneath Ceaseless Skies. Lesbian pirates sailing to magic Antarctica! F/F.
The Sycamore and the Sibyl, Alix E. Harrow, Uncanny. Women and turning into trees. I feel like this has a bit of the "might appear on ballots" about it.
