The Hobbit documentary
Jul. 8th, 2019 11:34 pmI dreaded having to watch Related Work nominee The Hobbit Duology (documentary in three parts) when I realized it was three half-hour YouTube videos, but I shocked and confused myself by actually enjoying it. Probably helped that I did it late at night when I shouldn't have, thus the spice of "forbidden indulgence" or something? Some sensible observations about pacing and structure, and then it got into some stuff about the studios and the finances, and then it got into NZ labor politics, which I had had *no* idea about. I ended up feeling good about my choice to only ever see the first of the three movies - I mean, I already felt good about it, but now with more confirmation. (As I recall, the dwarves singing was *amazing* and then it was all downhill from there, alas.)
The first part is here, and you can find the rest from there.
