The Divided Earth, Faith Erin Hicks, the conclusion of the Nameless City trilogy. DUDE. Satisfying conclusion; I continue to recommend these. Major spoilers: I feel like there was maybe a little too much "characters who shouldn't be able to fight that well suddenly can when it really comes down to it", but they were really well-done fight sequences, and it was only a little bit like that, like, the overall outcomes did seem to be slanting in the direction it seemed like they probably should. As a cynical adult I couldn't really buy the "soldiers decide not to follow orders to kill unarmed people" thing... plenty of soldiers/cops throughout history have no problem killing unarmed people... but I guess this is fantasy, so why not. I teared up when Rat told Kai her real name, oh my goddd what a scene. If someone ever wants these guys for Yuletide I would totally write them.
