To avoid being totally unfair: i really enjoyed the book, and there was a lot of great stuff in it, and i will possibly say more words when i actually have a few moments to do so, which is not right now. But, yeah, i was absolutely not into that from the moment it became obvious that was where we were going.
It's a choice i was never going to give a fair shake to largely because of Uprooted, *which i also really liked don't get me wrong*, but i think it's entirely fair to call it straightwashed, and to take the object lesson that Novik is very very interested in complex misunderstood men with poor social skills and i am... not.
