Head On, Scalzi, sequel to Lock In. If you liked Lock In you'll like it, if you didn't like Lock In you won't like it, if you haven't read Lock In I'd start there. What more is there to say. (Well: super fast read; I probably got more out of it than I would have a few years ago due to a greater familiarity with sports leagues; and I would like to note I was *totally wrong* about a bunch of major stuff, because if I was right I would have made a point of saying that and it only seems fair.)

Oh, also (spoiler for series) even knowing about the gender ambiguity, I *cannot* read Chris's voice as plausibly someone who grew up as a *female* child celebrity in the near-future US. I mean, maybe part of the point of the worldbuilding is that people in threeps weren't treated like people in bodies genderwise, and I buy that for non-celeb people, maybe, but not for people who were in the media. Scalzi has some thoughts about gender in these books here which I think focus too much on the internal experience of gender and not enough on gender as something that happens *to* you, something imposed - something that, if Chris *were* AFAB, even if he/they did eventually reject that to identify as male or NB, he would still be a survivor of, in a way he/they just doesn't feel to me. Chris is just a little too blithe for someone who endured the way the world treats famous young women. :(
