animated Jewish narratives double feature

psocopteraOr not exactly double feature because we watched them on different days, but our April vacation lousy-weather-and-we're-sick movie watching featured The Prince of Egypt and An American Tail.
Prince of Egypt was amazing; I had never seen it, but had intended to watch it with the kids for Passover. A couple of weeks late but I'm sure it made the Exodus story much more vivid for them than it had been before. Q thought the parting of "that river" was particularly awesome. I got pretty teary at multiple points, and some of the animation is gorgeous.
I'm pretty sure I saw American Tail in the theater when it came out, and was *prepared* to get teary, based on my recollection of "Somewhere Out There" as an utter tearjerker, but in fact I didn't at all. Not sure if it was being put off by the baby-talk voices or just that I didn't find it very engaging in general, as an adult. I don't think the kids were that into it either although we did have a nice talk about how the general story was similar to some of Josh's family history.
