I liked it, but wasn't wowed. (Also I had a hard time catching a lot of the dialogue and I feel old now.)
Re Marvel superteam gender politics, it occurs to me that it would have been so easy to have the raccoon played by a woman voice actor. Okay, sure, I guess the character is male in the comic, but given that the comic fandom has got to be a tiny fraction of the audience of this movie, I think they could have done it. Or for that matter Groot, who is practically female-coded already (your powers involve growing things out of your own body? sounds like an earth goddess trope to me). Would very much love to see a fandub with both of them played by ladies.
Man the Marvelverse is doing a long slow build with this Thanos business. I assume we're building towards a massive Avengers/Guardians teamup to fight him in like Avengers 3?

Date: 2014-08-05 05:13 pm (UTC)I think that is probably the plan for Thanos as well, and I really like that Marvel has clearly had a plan from the beginning, and various pieces from different movies are all building up and tying in, including in Shield (not sure if you know, but the alien in the Tahiti project is a Kree, same as Ronan). Not being familiar with the comics, I enjoyed these two videos, which points out a lot of little things and references (some of which I did get/notice, but many I did not): http://io9.com/nearly-every-marvel-movie-easter-egg-explained-in-one-v-1614597040 and http://io9.com/did-you-catch-all-of-these-easter-eggs-in-guardians-of-1615888153
