Okay, I had to look that one up. (I guess I could have just said Arachnids, but then you would have thought I was talking about spiders.) Quentin got a tick bite at alum weekend! Not engorged, probably on less than 24 hours, so we are optimistic for no Lyme. But seriously, enough with the arthropods already. ::thinks about it:: That's just asking for worms or leeches or something, isn't it. Sigh.

I've had tons of tick bites (it's Florida), and never gotten Lyme. Fingers crossed!

Leeches aren't too bad... I guess? Better than any kind of biting vertebrates.

Unfortunately the Lyme rate is higher in PA where this took place... but yeah, fingers crossed.

Biting vertebrates would also be bad.

Really! I'm so used to the evil insects all being down here... Why is that, I wonder?

I don't know what they would do since he is such a little kid, but when I though I had a tick bite (after being in Maine), I went to the doctor and they gave me some prescription that if taken within a certain (can't remember) time period, will prevent Lyme.

I checked wikipedia, I was given one (large?) dose of doxycycline, and apparently kids are given amoxicillin.

I took him to the ped immediately (well, the next day, we found the tick on Sun and I took him in Mon). She thought there was a good chance the tick had not fed long enough for transmission to occur, and opted for "watch closely", which - do I think she should have preemptively given him something? I don't know, but she's a pediatrician in a Lyme-endemic area, I hope she knows what she's doing?
