I am surprisingly upset about Oscar Pistorius - I am shocked and horrified, really. Of course logically I know there is no correlation between awesomeness of legs and not being a terrible person - why would there be? And yet my immediate reaction was "but he was so nifty"! I have never had any understanding or sympathy for why people got all upset about Lance Armstrong, but then, I don't much care about drug use, and I do care about murder, obviously, and I have this ludicrous feeling that it was a *betrayal*, of his potential, of all of us who cheered for him, like that's worse, somehow, than just the taking of the life of a person who is now dead forever. Oh, the reality-distortion field of celebrity.

Thank you! I feel exactly that. I so badly wanted him to have his chance at the Olympics, and I was so pleased when he ran, and at the sportsmanship of his fellow athletes, and it was such a marvelous story overall... and now I'm just like, WTH, dude? Ugh. Done with it.
