This week's theme: stuff! Ideas for your Christmas list or someone else's.

I don't think I would do so much science and baking with my kid if we didn't have the Learning Tower. Yes, it's basically a $200 step stool, but it's this nice big sturdy railed platform, good for small wiggly people with no sense, and it makes it really easy to have her up at the counter with me.

I've been thinking about one of those. How old was Junie when you started using it?

We seem to have bought ours in August 2010, when she was about a year and a half. I sort of recall that she didn't like it right at first, but we have pictures from later that fall where she's up there happily helping me roll out piecrust. (I bet the little sib is going to want to be in there as soon as it can stand up, by the theory that it will want to do everything Junie does...)

I note from the description that it (a) holds 500 pounds and (b) is therefore good for "up to two children."

!!!!!!!!

Hahaha. "Therefore". It's good for up to two children because that's how many you could pack in along the counter-facing edge - I'm sure it could hold a couple more behind them but they couldn't do anything. (I guess if it was being used for pretend play rather than counter access this might be useful, although Junie has never pretended anything with ours, yet.)
