Amanda Palmer sings "Science Fiction Double Feature", accompanied by Stephin Merritt, Moby, and Neil Gaiman. Sadly she is not actually playing the Usherette, but she is basically performing in her underwear, so hey. I wish we got even more Stephin Merritt, but what we did is gorgeous (he's singing in his register, always good...). I was amused by the extent to which I had no idea what the real lyrics are. (Or maybe I did once: the last time I saw Rocky Horror was probably 13-14 years ago... and the *next* time is likely to be when Junie wants to go and is too young to drive herself around after midnight...) The funniest part, though, is the way the audience goes nuts for Neil Gaiman picking out a couple of notes on the piano. Now that's celebrity.

I guess this could also be a rec for The Mary Sue in general, a fine source for geek culture news and amusements.

I can come up with the actual lyrics if I concentrate, but otherwise the callbacks and substitutions are really hard not to do.

I have a recording of the Dresden Dolls doing Science Fiction Double Feature, and I once saw Neil Gaiman open for the Magnetic Fields (at a concert ten years ago in New York, with [livejournal.com profile] sofer), but this actually manages to combine those. Awesome.

And if you do feel like going to Rocky sometime in the less distant future, let me know -- I'm generally up for it. Currently working on plans to go see The Rocky Horror Show at Oberon on December 2nd.
