Thought this was a 2019 book, but it's actually a 2018 book, whoops. (Maybe wouldn't have read it this month.) Annex, Rich Larson. YA SF - a 15 year old trans girl and 11 year old boy from Niger are two of the only free children left in a city after an alien apocalypse has zombified the adults and captured most of the children into warehouses. Good stuff - vivid action, tight plot, Larson does a great job of making all the players (including the aliens) have reasons and motivations behind their choices. Also pretty brutal on the cartoon-to-realism scale - the aliens are very alien but they suffer and scream when injured or dying, and kids get killed. The sequel comes out in September and I'll be looking forward to it.
