Spiderman Homecoming
Apr. 23rd, 2019 02:36 pmSuper likeable character with a very sympathetic situation/arc, that's what I'm talking about! And so funny! Peter was one of the best things in Infinity War even without having seen this movie and those scenes are even better in retrospect with this context. I was a little surprised this movie didn't have more Zendaya but Ned was *great*. Definitely recommended.
Also I've now seen all of these except the Hulk movie with the different actor, so let's do a ranking, why not.
1. Black Panther. The winner in style and substance - the visual worldbuilding! the villain with an actual point! the struuuucture!
2. Captain Marvel. The most fun! If you want sheer glee this is your movie.
3. Captain America: The First Avenger. Ok I'm three movies in and this has already become hard, but, I dunno, the end is so sad and so gooood, waaah.
4. Iron Man. Honestly I haven't rewatched this in forever but I seem to recall multiple good engineering montages and that last line blew open what I thought superhero movies could be.
5. Spider-Man: Homecoming. Am I ranking this so high because I just saw it? Maybe but it was so sweet and the character stuff is so good.
6. The Avengers. What if we took a bunch of fun characters and PUT THEM TOGETHER.
7. Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A variety of good character beats.
8. Ant-Man and the Wasp. So much fun.
9. Thor: Ragnarok. I think people tend to uprank this for the surprise factor of someone having managed to tell a worthwhile story with Thor. I don't know, it was fun and the music was good and I liked the ending, maybe this could move up a notch or two.
10. Iron Man 2. As I recall this movie has one really excellent engineering montage and not a lot else going for it, but man, I love an engineering montage.
11. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I seem to remember finding the villain actually chilling and the ending surprisingly satisfying.
12. Ant-Man. I like ants. And families.
13. Iron Man 3. I remember really liking the skydiving scene.
14. Guardians of the Galaxy. I am Groot.
15. Doctor Strange. I guess? Time games are fun.
16. Thor. Sure.
17. Thor: The Dark World. Meh.
18. Avengers: Age of Ultron. To be fair, I recall this movie having some fun action combos in how, like, Steve interacts with other people with the shield, but also wow did it piss me off.
19. Captain America: Civil War. What the fuck was this movie even about other than drafting teams for a random all-star battle. Ant-Man going big was good but you can get that in Ant-Man and Wasp now with an actual story. Is it actually worse than Age of Ultron, hard to say.
20. Avengers: Infinity War. Ugggghhhh.
So now that we're all excited for Endgame... :)
