Coco (and also Frozen)
Nov. 25th, 2017 06:12 pmCoco made me cry hard enough that I got home and had to take headache meds because my eyes hurt, but it's a beautiful movie. Miguel's great-grandmother is the most beautifully animated elderly person I've ever seen on the screen, amazing work. One question, is the shoemaking great-great grandma being named "Imelda" an Imelda Marcos joke? I mean, pretty much the only thing I know about Imelda Marcos is "shoes", and she's the only Imelda I can think of?
On the other hand I really wasn't into the Frozen short, it dragged and I found it upsetting that Kristoff was all excited to celebrate the traditions of his adoptive family and Anna and Elsa were completely dismissive about them. Like, wow, let's tell kids it's just fine to think their friends' cultures are weird and gross and to blow them off if you're invited to join in! Great message, thanks Disney! (Kristoff, please don't marry Anna if she's going to be a dick about something you really wanted to share with her.)
