In general: things looking up.
Less than 24 hours later: mouse poop on the counters. I would think I was being punished for my hubris except I don't really think it was hubristic to say "largely through no action of my own various situations have improved". Also, I feel like I still get the last laugh here, because I've fought mice before and won and I feel much less out of my depth than I did with the carpenter ants.
