book review: And Tango Makes Three

With Junie so interested in babies lately, it seemed like the perfect time to read And Tango Makes Three, about the gay penguin dads at the Central Park Zoo. It is just as adorable as you'd expect (which is: very), and it's always interesting to check out books from the ALA most-banned list. Junie loved it and squeeed adorably herself when the baby penguin hatched.

Harmless, my favorite of this year's Discworld stories (I always like golems).

Dragonsearch, a Pern story about Mirrim.

Triage, a Pern story about the decline of technology post-colonization.

Hoag, Earthsea, Jasper/Vetch. Even not having read the book in ages and having forgotten all the details, this was impressive.

Calling to the wind, Earthsea, post-canon, about names.

As Winds That Blow Against a Star. Emily of New Moon, Emily/Dean, post-canon. This is really gorgeous.

Emily of Blair Water (Variations for Sax and Fiddle) is a fusion with Some Like It Hot with a trans Emily. Only at Yuletide! But it works.

Hm, I think once I've recced a story in a given fandom, I'm more likely to rec more stories in that fandom, like some sort of halo effect... I suppose if I really wanted to be a geek about it I'd be keeping a count of how many I'm *reading* to see what percent I'm reccing. Maybe in the next batch.
