The Heart of the Heart of the World. Gentlemen of the Road fanfic. Dude this is well written.

At Lunchtime, In the Wilderness. A Yuletide Madness crossover of Calvin and Hobbes and Where the Wild Things Are. I wish this was ten times as long.

It's always interesting to read the Lord Peter Wimsey stories; this year I liked Third-Person Present Tense, the Yuletide Madness story Photographic Evidence, Peter and the Power of Suggestion, and Harriet and Sergeant.

Light and Darkness Both Together is well-written Kushiel's Legacy porn, and yet this Imriel has clearly done a lot of, uh, exploring, since the books; I found myself wanting less sex and more hints about how Imriel got from there to here, what Sidonie thinks about all this, etc. I don't know why with some fandoms/ships I'm totally willing to just accept alternate pairings as interesting alternate universes (like Photographic Evidence above) and with some I'm not. Maybe part of it is that I don't feel like I have a great sense of who Imriel *is*, apart from his particular history; mix up his ships and I have no idea what he's like. Well, like this, I guess, and there's an implication of who/how/why, but this is like too many jumps over for me. (Does anyone else fantasize about someone doing serious quantitative work on things like how many stories on average have to exist in a given fandom before you start seeing total AUs? I swear there's a thing where the more you raise the center of the pile, the further things can spill out to the sides.)

Childish Things, a Hexwood story.

Taking Flight, a Girl With the Silver Eyes story. Part of the fun of Yuletide for me is seeing the way other people remember and still love things I loved when I was little - I read this book over and over when I was about 9.

The Wheel and the Serpent, a Gunnerkrigg Court story. I'm still kind of confused about the whole Zimmy thing and this story is no exception, but there's a lovely moment between Zimmy and Gamma here that doesn't need any further explanation, and some other interesting character bits as well.

The Ghost of Orrimy, an Earthsea fairy tale.

The Sugarcane Drive is a sequel to "The Effluent Engine", which you can read here. A fanfic sequel, I mean, but a worthy one.

Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Equitable Agency. This is really quite excellent.

A League of their Own was my favorite of the Disney Princess Superheroes stories - it's worth it just to follow the link to the fanart that inspired it, if nothing else.

Dollhouse stories! Afterlife is post-everything, well-written, and addresses something I had issues with.

This kid I once knew, Susie Derkins years after Calvin and Hobbes. A lot of future fic has a really improbable degree of people's childhood friends still being central to their lives in adulthood, and I like the realism of this, where there's fond memory, but divergence.

A Castle Waiting story!

A number of Chrestomanci stories; I liked this one and this one and this one and this one and this one. Some romance, some feminism, some magic. Good stuff.
