The first part of the Widespread Panic concert - well, I was having fun, but after awhile I noticed that most of the thoughts I was actually thinking were "when are they going to stop so it will be quieter?" The second part I sensibly put in my earplugs and it was fun, but I wasn't familiar with anything they were playing. And I was falling asleep (I've never had trouble keeping my eyes open before at a 100+ decibel concert... maybe it was all the, er, fumes?), so after a good drum solo we decided to leave.

Slowly, with several pauses to see what they might play next.

They seemed to be taking a break - we surmised they had gone off stage and were going to come back out for encores.

We gave up and went out throug the exit and started walking towards the bus...

An aside: I am very frequently enamored of a band's "swingiest" songs - my favorite TMBG song is "Istanbul"... and they didn't play it when I saw them. I'm very fond of Crowded House's "Sister Madly"... and they didn't play it when I saw them. In both those cases though there are some instruments and instrumentalists involved that are not part of the standard lineup, so it is perhaps not surprising. Widespread Panic's "Big Woolly Mammoth" does *not* involve any extra instruments...

And they played it as their first encore! We were sadly unable to hold up our Big Signs of Mammoth Glee for the band to see - Chaos's was bright green and had a cartoon of a mammoth, mine said "Big Wooly Mammoth"(because I apparently cannot spell woolly) and had two little cave-painting style mammoths - but Chaos held up hers on the street corner for the amusement of other people leaving the concert, and I danced and danced and danced. Happiness is a woolly mammoth.
