Cleaning my room (go me!) I found last Wednesday's Metro. The "three thoughts" feature was "if you could decide what you will dream tonight, what would you choose?"
And what we got were "playing golf at Pebble Beach", "winning $100 million", and "to win the lottery".
Really? That's what these people would most want to *dream* about? I can see actually wishing to win the lottery, but how satisfying would that be as a dream? And... it just seems so mundane. I mean, a little imagination, here... what about swimming with mermaids, or being on the first expedition to Mars or something? I myself had this wacky Buffy dream last night in which there were all these child vampires running around, and everybody was reluctant to stake them, even though we sort of knew we were going to have to eventually. And then somebody summoned some evil goddess, I think, who showed up as these giant orange feet with blue nails that came smashing down through the ceiling... I didn't stick around to see the whole thing, I was running down through what seemed to be a cross between a hospital and a baggage claim and out through the graveyard full of candles. And somewhere in there I got to make out with Spike, because he came into the bathroom while I was brushing my teeth, only he started
biting my neck making silly chomping noises and I could feel his fangs but it turned out he was just kidding. And I feel the whole thing was much more interesting than a dream about playing golf... I mean, those feet were a great image, this almost pearlescent orange, and I just love the adventure-surreality of dreams like that...
